Prior to forming Cartesian, Peter founded and served as President & Chief Executive Officer of AIG Capital Partners, Inc. ("AIGCP"). Under Peter's leadership, AIGCP grew to become one of the leading private equity firms dedicated to emerging markets. By the time of his departure, AIGCP managed more than $5 billion for institutional investors. Peter chaired investment committees for eight AIGCP private equity funds and led numerous successful transactions in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and Asia. Prior to founding AIGCP in 1996, Peter served as Director to the National Economic Council, the White House office responsible for developing and coordinating economic policy. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Peter served as President of the Harvard Law Review and as a law clerk on the U.S. Supreme Court. Peter holds a BA from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.

Prior to forming Cartesian, Tom served as Senior Advisor to AIGCP from 1999-2005, playing an active role in a number of the firm's investments. Tom was co-founder of Advent International, a global private equity firm, where he served as Executive Vice President and COO from 1984 to 1998. During that period, Tom served on the firm's Investment Committee and assisted in the formation and operation of 26 affiliated private equity firms around the world. Tom has also served as Vice President, International of The Allen Group, a NYSE-listed manufacturer of capital equipment, automotive parts, and consumer products. Tom is also co-founder and former COO of Thrasos, Inc., a pharmaceutical development firm using combinatorial and computational chemistry technology to validate early stage biological targets and accelerate the development of new therapeutic agents. Tom holds engineering degrees from Princeton and Cornell, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Prior to forming Cartesian, and together with Peter Yu and Paul Pizzani, Geoff formed the AIG Global Sports & Entertainment Fund ("GSEF"). Prior to this position, Geoff served as a strategic advisor to Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets and focused on private equity investments. From 1994 to 1998, Geoff served as Associate General Counsel of COMSAT Corporation, an international communications company, and as Chief Counsel of COMSAT International Ventures, which developed, acquired, and managed communications properties in developing markets. Prior to his COMSAT experience, Geoff practiced law at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, where he specialized in international transactions and joint ventures. Geoff holds a BA from Tufts University and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law.

Prior to forming Cartesian, Bill served as Managing Director and General Counsel of AIGCP. Bill also served as Managing Director of the AIG-Brunswick Millennium Fund and led a number of successful transactions in Central and Eastern Europe. Prior to joining AIGCP in 1997, Bill practiced law at Debevoise & Plimpton, specializing in international private equity investment and Russian corporate and securities laws. Bill also served as a consultant to the World Bank on the regulation of Foreign Direct Investment in emerging markets. Bill is a graduate of the University of Montana, and holds an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a JD from Harvard Law School.

Prior to forming Cartesian, and together with Peter Yu and Geoff Hamlin, Paul formed the AIG Global Sports & Entertainment Fund ("GSEF"). Prior to this position, Paul served as Managing Director of Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets and focused on private equity investments. From 1985 to 1997, Paul held various positions at COMSAT Corporation, and he served as Treasurer prior to joining Wasserstein. Paul was also instrumental in the establishment of COMSAT International Ventures, where he directed the investment of more than $300 million in fifteen opportunities in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and Asia. Paul holds a BS from Villanova University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Paul is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Management Accountant.
Gregory R. Armstrong
Prior to joining Cartesian, Greg was an Associate at AIG Capital Partners where he participated in a number of the firm's investments, ranging from natural resources to telecommunications. Greg was previously with Broadview International, a mid-market mergers & acquisitions advisory firm, where he specialized in advising communications infrastructure companies. Greg holds a BS in electrical engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from MIT's Sloan School. Greg is conversant in German.
Francisco Muniz Barreto
Before joining Cartesian Capital Group, Francisco served as a Senior Associate at Euro-Latin Capital. He began his career at BACP/SG Warburg, an Argentine investment banking firm, and then joined AIG Capital Partners as a Senior Associate. Francisco holds a BA degree with a major in economics from Universidad de Belgrano/University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MSc in finance from London Business School. Francisco is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
Paweł Deptuła
Prior to joining Cartesian, Paweł served as an Investment Associate with Argus Capital, a private equity fund in Central Europe. Paweł previously served as an Associate with AIG Capital Partners, operating in the Warsaw office. Paweł has significant experience in investments on the Warsaw Stock Exchange working for asset management and consulting companies. Paweł holds an MBA from Oxford Brookes University; he also completed studies at Wyższa Szkola Zarządzania in Warsaw. Paweł is fluent in Polish and Russian.
Kathleen Hegierski
Prior to joining Cartesian, Kathy served as Director of Client Services at AIG Capital Partners. Kathy previously worked at The New York City Partnership, after completing her career as a professional opera singer featured in major opera houses around the world. Kathy is fluent in Italian and French.
Paul Hong
Prior to joining Cartesian, Paul served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of AIG Capital Partners and participated in the bulk of the firm's investments during his tenure. Paul was previously an attorney in the corporate and tax departments of Kirkland & Ellis where he specialized in private equity transactions. Paul holds an AB in Economics from Columbia College, a JD from Columbia Law School, and an LLM in Taxation from New York University Law School.
Nicolae Ivan
Nicolae previously served as Secretary of State of the Romanian Ministry of Public Finance. Nicolae has also served as Managing Partner at Fin Associated Consultants, an investment banking partnership in Romania specializing in privatization opportunities, M&A, and structured financing for SMEs. Nicolae holds an MSc in Nuclear Engineering from the Universitatea Politehnica Bucharest and an MBA from the University of Washington. Nicolae is fluent in Romanian.
Yongchen Lu
Prior to joining Cartesian, Yongchen worked at General Electric where he was responsible for managing an indoor fixture product line for the Asia Pacific region, including sourcing, R&D, supply chain, sales, and marketing. Yongchen graduated from GE's Financial Management Program and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Yongchen holds a BA from Shanghai Jiaotong University and an MBA from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Yongchen is fluent in Mandarin and Shanghainese.
Rafael A. de Luque
Prior to joining Cartesian, Rafael was a Vice President of AIG Capital Partners. Prior to this position, Rafael was a Financial Consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank, focusing on debt financing and credit/political risk guarantees in Latin America. Previously, Rafael served in the banking industry in Colombia. He holds a BEng and a BS from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia and an MBA from the University of Maryland at College Park. Rafael is a CFA charterholder and fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese.
Beth S. Michelson
Prior to joining Cartesian, Beth was a Founding Principal of PH Capital, the manager of the AIG Global Sports & Entertainment Fund ("GSEF"). Prior to the formation of PH Capital, Beth was an Associate at Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets focusing on private equity investments and structured products. Previously, Beth worked in financing for media and entertainment at Dresdner Bank AG. She holds a BA, with distinction, from the University of Michigan and an MBA and MIA from Columbia Business School and Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. Beth is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Charles M. Mixon
Prior to joining Cartesian, Charles served as Senior Vice President at AIG Capital Partners, and participated in a number of the firm's investments across numerous sectors, including telecommunications, consumer products, banking, natural resources, and retail. Charles holds a BA from Elon University and an MA from Indiana University. Charles is fluent in Russian and conversant in Polish.
Sabina Potack
Prior to joining Cartesian, Sabina was a senior financial accountant at Cohen & Steers, a manager of high-income equity portfolios. Sabina played an essential role in the IPO process of Cohen & Steers and helped to oversee all SEC reporting. Sabina also served as an auditor for five years at Ernst & Young. She holds a BS in accountancy from the George Washington University. Sabina is fluent in Russian.
Guilherme Rochlitz Quintão
Prior to joining Cartesian, Guilherme was the Founding Partner and Director of Paraty Group, a private equity and M&A advisory boutique, where he led M&A projects in the consumer goods, packaging, logistics, and information technology industries. Prior to founding Paraty Group, Guilherme served as an Associate at AIG Capital Partners. Guilherme holds a BS in production engineering from Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo and an MBA from Insead, Fountainbleau, France. Guilherme is fluent in Portuguese and conversant in French.
Nam Trinh
Prior to joining Cartesian, Nam worked at Berkery, Noyes & Co., as an Associate providing M&A advisory services in the media and information industries. Previously, Nam served as an Analyst in the assurance and advisory practice at Deloitte & Touche. Nam graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a BS in economics with concentrations in finance, accounting and statistics from The Wharton School and a BSE in computer science and engineering from The School of Engineering and Applied Science. Nam is a CFA charterholder and is conversant in Vietnamese.
Peng Zhang
Peng joined Cartesian after a distinguished career in the Chinese foreign service, having previously served as Deputy Director at MOFCOM, Second Secretary for the Chinese Embassy in Canada and Vice Consul in Pakistan. Peng holds a BA and an MA from the University of International Business and Economics, and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Peng is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
G. Chase Toogood
Prior to forming Cartesian IrisRe, Chase was a Director in the Proprietary Trading Group at Credit Suisse, where he created and managed a portfolio of Industry-Loss Warranties. Before joining Credit Suisse, Chase was an Assistant Vice President with ACE Capital Re where he specialized in structured products and financial guaranty reinsurance. Chase is a CFA charterholder and holds a BA in History from Trinity College.
G. Schuyler Havens
Prior to joining Cartesian IrisRe, Schuyler was CFO and Head of Corporate Development at Freestone Capital Management. Previously, Schuyler was a Director of E*TRADE Wealth Management, and COO and CFO of Howard Capital Management. Schuyler holds a BA in Economics and History from Trinity College.
